Yes! Out of all the Avengers I’d argue that Thor has the most actual common sense and he’s not a “dumb jock”, come on people.

It really bugs me, too, because having a completely different cultural background is not an indication of a lack of intelligence.

He’s a nearly-immortal alien space god. So yeah. The way he interacts with society is different. That doesn’t make him stupid.

I think this relates to an issue that we studied when I was taking education courses. But there is an impulse people have to equate cultural understanding (and language skills) with intelligence. Which is an incredibly flawed understanding of what intelligence is. (Don’t get me started on the tendency for American schools to put ESL kids in special needs classes because THOSE TWO THINGS DO NOT GO TOGETHER)

And seriously? Thor adapts to a wildly different culture absurdly fast and completely on his own. Understanding people and being able to empathize with them and make friends with them and work with them is a type of intelligence and a skill, one that Thor has in spades (and one that Loki can’t figure out how to do even within the culture he was raised.)

Mike and I are excited, elated, proud, relieved, and a bunch of other emotions to *FINALLY* announce the release of a soundtrack of Jeremy Zuckerman’s score from Book 1 of The Legend of Korra. I can’t begin to summarize the 9-year struggle we have endured to get any sort of a soundtrack released. We love Jeremy’s music deeply, and we know the fans do too, so it has been an incredibly frustrating wait and battle to make this a reality. All of the online petitions for an Avatar: The Last Airbender soundtrack were an amazing show of support from thousands of people and greatly appreciated, but for so long it seemed to be in vain as the idea of a soundtrack was blocked at a bureaucratic impasse.

Gratefully, thanks to the tireless efforts of some key people inside and outside of Nickelodeon who championed this project for many years, it is finally happening. Now, we are very aware that those petitions were for an Avatar soundtrack, which has yet to see the light of day. Firstly, we are lucky to get any sort of music release to happen, and secondly, our hope is that the Korra Book 1 soundtrack will be a success and show the company that there is a real demand for other music releases, Avatar included.

And a *HUGE* thank to Jeremy for his incredible scores. We are honored and lucky to get to work with a composer so immensely talented and dedicated. Congratulations on the release!

–The first-ever The Legend of Korra soundtrack - The Legend of Korra: Original Music From Book One – will be available digitally and in stores everywhere on Tuesday, July 16.
–The album showcases 26 original instrumental tracks composed by Jeremy Zuckerman.
–The album is currently available for pre-order.
–The Legend of Korra: Original Music From Book One is being released by Nickelodeon and Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment.

I got to meet Miles at a convention last summer. Not some kid in a costume. But Miles.

There’s this kid at our booth. I’d guess around 11 years old. He had been by the booth solo a couple times already. This time he had an adult.

“This one dad. This is the new Spider-Man.”
“Uh, huh.” his dad was singularly unimpressed with Spidey.
“No dad see,” and he points to one where Miles has the mask off, “He’s half black and half Mexican.” the kid is just beaming.
Dad starts to smile. This is about when a lady walks up, she puts her arm around dad and the kid says hi to mom.

Here’s the thing. This kid’s dad is Hispanic and mom is black. Miles was literally showing him he could be Spider-Man.

This isn’t me wanting to grow up and be Storm. This isn’t me wanting to be Captain America. Those are characters that are like me, kind of. But I have tons of characters that are “just like me”. That’s my white girl privilege.

Miles, beyond being a super awesome Spider-Man is a super awesome role model. This is a character that says, you exist AND you can be a hero.

Miles is the reason I am so passionate about representation in comics. Because I saw that little boy’s face and the pride in having himself matter enough, his family matters enough, to be shown in comics.

The kid and I had a lovely chat about Miles and how awesome he was. His dad asked for info on the comics so he could try & find the back issues for his son. It is pretty much my best memory of that convention.

I started reading Miles because I was interested in a different take on Spidey. I kept reading because Miles is AWESOME. I will continue reading so that kid keeps being able to see himself in the pages of a comic.

I find it weird that people seem to think that people who enjoy characters as LI only like them as such, and can enjoy them no other way.

Or find it entitled when people express that they would’ve liked to see something in the game that didn’t happen.

Shockingly enough, most people who are fans of characters can enjoy them outside of their romances. I love Morrigan as my dalish dude’s lady, but I also love the bond she builds up with other Wardens, it’s fantastic. I adore Oghren but I would not romance him with a puppet on a ten foot pole. So on and so forth.

No game is gonna be perfect to everyone’s taste, everyone knows that, c’mon!There’s only so many options and time for devs, we all know that. If I waited to play a game that met every single one of my criteria, romance or otherwise, I would be playing with a stick and even then I’d probably think “meh this stick could be a slightly lighter shade of brown”.

But

It’s okay to say “aw I wish ___ had happened” or say that “I didn’t like ___ or would’ve preferred ____ so here’s my interpretation” because holy shit it’s okay to have a different wishes for recreational games

that’s totally cool too, have at it, I mean that is LITERALLY the point of meta and fanfic and headcanons and fanart! There is a significant portion of these creative endeavors that creators usually seem to adore that is started with this base emotion of wanting more.

that’s almost basically the idea behind anything created in the fantasy genre anymore — including yes Dragon Age — because we’ve all seen the typical shit and think to ourselves “well WHAT IF…” and if you don’t think that’s true, I’m gonna be blunt and say you’re full of crap.

now if someone’s running around with their head screaming that such and such was JUST RUINED and that the ONLY THING that would’ve made it better was whatever they wanted and that theirs is the only opinion that matters, then feel free to call entitlement. But that’s something I very rarely see, even in the permanently emotionally defunct fandom that is Bioware fandom.
